About Tidespring – Our Story
Welcome to Tidespring, home of quality Border Collies and Bernese Mountain Dogs in the UK.
Our Beginning with Border Collies
Our journey with dogs began in 1985 when we, Mark and Carole, welcomed our first Border Collie, Benji, into our lives. Benji was a beautiful black and white collie with a lively spirit. Shortly after, we added Lassie, a tri-coloured Border Collie, to the family. They were our first taste of this incredible breed—and we’ve never looked back.
Our First KC Registered Border Collies
In 1987, we took our passion to the next level by purchasing our first Kennel Club registered Border Collie. Her name was Mobella Charmaine, and she came from the respected breeder Pam Harris. Later that year, we welcomed Tonkory Ego, bred by Judith Gregory. These two dogs laid the foundation for our future breeding lines and lifelong commitment to the breed.
The Origin of the Tidespring Affix
On 1st October 1989, we were officially granted our affix: Tidespring. The name has personal meaning—Mark served in the Merchant Navy, and Tidespring was one of the ships he sailed on. The name reflects both our heritage and our deep-rooted passion for dogs.
Adding Bernese Mountain Dogs to Our Family
In 2003, we expanded our love for dogs to include the Bernese Mountain Dog breed. Our first Bernese was Tia, a gentle and loving companion who quickly captured our hearts and sparked a new chapter in our dog journey.
Our Start in Agility, Obedience, and Dog Shows
Our interest in dog sports began early. With Benji and Lassie, we started attending agility classes, obedience training, and local Exemption Dog Shows. At our very first show, Lassie won 1st in “Prettiest Bitch” and 3rd in “Most Appealing Eyes.” Benji proudly earned 2nd in “Best Mover” and 4th in “Best Condition.”
That first event gave us the showing bug—and we still have those treasured rosettes as a reminder of where it all began.

Over the years we have had some very special dogs with lots of happy memories and we still continue to show, although at one point we took some time out to support our son who was cross country running at National level.
Mark also judges Border Collies and in 2021 he gave his first set of tickets at Southern Counties Championship Show and throughly enjoyed his day.
Carole is now approved to award tickets in Border Collies, and will be judging soon.
Team Tidespring is currently flying our flag in the ring and hopefully in the near future our grand daughter Lola Rose will join us in promoting our dogs.
Puppy and stud enquiries are welcome. AI is available.
Our special thanks goes to Pam Harris (who unfortunately recently passed away) and to Judith Gregory for all there support in the early years. I was always taught to never forget your roots, who helped you along the way and this is something that has always been instilled in me from a very early age and a sign of respect to others. Thank you ladies.
